Neighborhood Cleanup Party

Past event
Oct 24, 2015, 10 AM to 2 PM

Councilor Jane Knodell and I have been working to organize a cleanup/dumpster party in the Old North End. In the past, the city has found that residents have difficulty discarding certain items due to cost or lack of transportation. The result can be homes with excessive clutter and therefore a diminished quality of life. Holding a neighborhood cleanup event would give residents the ability to properly dispose of their personal property, and therefore reduce illegal dumping on the greenbelts and in medians. It gives neighbors an opportunity to build positive relationships with one another and with city officials. It would also give neighbors the opportunity to discuss any other challenges that the neighborhood may have such as crime, traffic safety, etc.

After looking at data from See Click Fix and from BPD, we have decided to hold this event on Cedar Street between Lafountain and Rose on 10/24 from 10-2pm. This event is for residents on the Cedar Street and in the surrounding neighborhood. Residents are invited to come and discard unwanted items and meet neighbors and city officials. We plan to block off this block of the street and will be going door to door to discuss this with neighbors ahead of time. We are getting help from an Old North End neighbor to potentially secure some flower bulb donations that can be planted in the green belts of the neighborhood.

We are looking for people who want to help get the word out the weekend before and want to participate on the day of the event.

I will unfortunately be out of the state on this day and can not attend.

If you have questions or want to volunteer please call Jane at 862-2469.
