Mad Matt the Democrat at Martha Canfield Library

Past event
Oct 4, 2015, 2 to 4 PM

In this talk, Vincent Feeney discusses Matthew Lyon - indentured servant, Green Mountain Boy, son-in-law to Thomas Chittenden, land speculator, entrepreneur, and one of the most colorful characters in Vermont's early years. Perhaps best remembered for his imprisonment under the Alien and Sedition Acts, and subsequent re-election while in jail, his life not only exemplified the promise of possibility in the then-new United States, but also reflected the political tension of the times.

This event is free and open to the public. This is a Vermont Humanities Council program hosted by the Library. Call 802-375-6153 or check our website, marthacanfieldlibrary.org for more information.
