On Sunday, October 4th at 11:00 a.m., Ivory Free Vermont will be staging a march in Burlington on behalf of the elephants. In this, we will be joining people all over the world who are taking similar actions on the same day to call attention to the threat of extinction the elephants currently face. We will convene in front of City Hall at 149 Church Street at 11:00 a.m. The march will begin at 11:30, to be followed by a noon rally. Registration is required: Please register by visiting: www.ivoryfreevermont.org.

We will also be hosting an “Ivory is for Elephants” Kid’s T-shirt Making Workshop on Sunday, September 27, at 10:00 a.m. at Davis Studio, 4 Howard Street in Burlington. Come and join the fun and bring the whole family! We will be making T-shirts to wear at the march. Refreshments will be served! Registration is limited, (and also required! ). Please register today and find more information at http://davisstudiovt.com/products/t-shirt-painting-for-global-march-for-elephants-rhinos.

Finally, we want to leave you with a little piece of information that might help you understand why we care about these marvelous creatures so much. Some say elephants are telepathic and that they mourn their dead. There was a man by the name of Lawrence Anthony who had a large game park in South Africa. He adopted a herd of elephants who otherwise would have been shot. He brought them to his game park where they became his friends. When he died some years later, these elephants traveled for over twelve hours to his house where they remained for two days before leaving; this was highly unusual behavior for them. Why were they there? Scientists are still scrambling to come up with a good answer to that question, while others who know better simply maintain that these elephants knew that their close friend, a man who had saved them, had died, and thus they were coming to pay their final respects. https://featuredcreature.com/the-elephant-whisperer-the-story-of-lawrence-anthony-and-the-el[...]et/
