Promoting Independence and Protecting Health for Older Adults

Hello! My name is Katerina Ioannou and I’m a Paramedic with Essex Rescue. We’re teaming up with the Vermont Department of Health and Champlain Valley Agency on Aging to bring you a new falls prevention program called FallScape. It’s part of a nationwide community health initiative to promote wellness, independent living, and preventive medicine. Did you know that 1 in 3 adults aged 65 and older falls every year? Falls can be devastating, leading to life-altering injury, loss of independence, or even death. However, falls are NOT an inevitable part of aging.

On September 28, I will be attending the Senior Meal Site community lunch at the Covenant Church. At that location, I can work with people to decide if they or a loved one are right for the free guided learning program. From there, I can schedule an appointment in your home or other location of your choosing. At this appointment, I’ll work with you to complete the guided self-discovery and interactive multimedia learning experience. After that, I can call you once a week for a month to discuss your experiences with fall prevention and complete another in-home visit if you’d like.

Anyone who has fallen or has concerns about falling is eligible for this free program. Please contact me at kioannou@essexrescue.org if you or a loved one may be interested, or join us on September 28 from 11:30 am to 1 pm at the Covenant Church on the Essex/Jericho line, located at 1 Whitcomb Meadows Lane.
