This Saturday, September 26, a special school meeting will be held to vote on whether the Calais Elementary School budget should be voted on by ballot in the future. It will be following by a town meeting to vote on whether future appropriations to the Kellogg-Hubbard Library should be voted on by ballot. You have to be present to vote. The meeting starts promptly at 9 am.
HOW TO CHECK IN:
1) Come early. At the last special meeting in November 2014, 200 people attended.
2) Get in line to have your name checked off the voter checklist. One line is for names A – L and one for names M - Z.
3) When you check in, STATE YOUR NAME. It’s the law, even if we know you. 4) Voter card - you will be handed a voter card. This proves you are eligible to vote.
4) Bring a pen or pencil. Voting takes place from the floor, but if a ballot vote is called for, you will be given a piece of paper on which to write your “yes” or “no” vote.
Some people who signed the petitions calling for the special meetings are not on the voter checklist. If you want to vote, you must be a Calais resident and you must register to vote before the meeting. Call the town office if you need information on how to register to vote.
Town Plan Hearing
The public hearing on the town plan will take place Monday, October 5, 2015 at the Town Hall at 7 pm. To view the draft of the Town Plan go to www.calaisvermont.gov.
