Shoreham Historical Society: Calling All Buttons!

Where: The Old Schoolhouse on Rt 22A in Shoreham

Susan Peden, secretary of the Verd Mont Button Club, will give a talk about the history of early buttons.  Her presentation will include examples of some of the types of buttons likely used in 18th and 19th Century America, as well as more modern examples.  Her talk will include examples of some of the different types of materials used in button making throughout history: bone, wood, clay pewter, brass, glass, horn, shell, porcelain, vegetable ivory, hard rubber, composition, casein, phenolic resin, and plastics. You are invited to bring along a few buttons to show or try to identify.  Susan lives with her husband in Shoreham and is the past Education Coordinator at the Henry Sheldon Museum of Vermont History.
