Bring your own apples and jugs to make cider using a manual apple grinder and press. This process is labor intensive and makes small cider batches of less than 2 gallons each run. Bring your children and learn how cider is made. Any apples will do. The best cider comes from a mix of different apples with about one half sweet, one quarter bitter and one quarter sharp, but the miracle is that any apples make cider. Apples from wild trees growing in abandoned orchards, fields and along the road make fine cider. Pick firm apples without soft spots. Even fallen apples that are still firm work well.
We will have a way to rinse your apples before pressing. One rule of thumb is that 42 medium sized apples make 1 gallon of cider.
Snacks will be available.
Depending on how many people show up we may limit pressing to one batch per person.
