For our October book discussion, Talk About Books has selected Steve Kluger's "Last Days of Summer". This is a hilarious and heart-warming story told exclusively through letters, postcards, notes, telegrams, newspaper clippings, etc. by Joey, a precocious twelve-year-old boy. Growing up poor and fatherless in a tough neighborhood in Brooklyn in the 1940's, Joey manages to strike up an unlikely friendship with his hero, Charlie Banks, a rising star with the New York Giants.
Who doesn't relate to the joys and sorrows of growing up? Join us on Wednesday, October 21st at 6:30 at the Guilford Free Library. Talk About Books is held every third Wednesday of the month. We'd love to hear your thoughts and suggestions for future reads.
