As some of you know, parents, school staff and community members have been coming together now, for over 40 years, to organize, prepare and serve a traditional turkey dinner at the Pomfret Town Hall. This event is the main fundraiser for the Prosper Valley School PTO and is an entirely volunteer effort. Come out for a wonderful community dinner and support our new school!

This year, the new school representing the communities of Bridgewater and Pomfret, will host the 41st Annual Harvest Supper on Saturday, Oct. 3 at the Pomfret Town Hall. There are 3 seatings 5 p.m., 6:15 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.) and they WILL sell out, so make your reservation early! Reservations can be made online at www.pomfretharvestsupper.com or by calling Sara Smith at 802.457.4881.

A Brief History of the Harvest Supper

In the early 1970’s a group of parents got together to start the first kindergarten in Pomfret. The Town agreed to allow a class to be held in the Town Hall building, however, the Town was not able to fund the kindergarten teacher’s salary.

Not to be discouraged, the pioneers that started the Pomfret Kindergarten found ways of funding their dream, which included proceeds from a Harvest Supper. The kindergarten has become an integral part of our school, but the Harvest Supper has endured and is now The Prosper Valley School PTO’s main fundraiser, now in its 41st year.

Annually, the PTO supports many vital school programs. About 25% of the funds are allotted to class allowances, where teachers decide how to spend that money to enrich their class programs. Additionally, Harvest Supper contributions help reduce the cost of attending Pentangle and Lebanon Opera House productions, and to purchase new library books.

Most recently funds have been distributed for the multi-sport court and its basketball hoops, photography equipment, the yearbook, and seeing to immediate needs when non-budgeted items need to be purchased.

Many community members continue to participate well after their children graduate from our school. The Harvest Supper is truly an enduring community event to look forward to. Come enjoy with us!
