"Barre Memories: Quarrying the Past"

Past event
Sep 20, 2015, 7 to 8 PM

On Sunday evening, September 20th, the East Monkton Church Association will host a viewing of the documentary: “Barre Memories: Quarrying the Past.” The viewing will take place at the East Monkton Church, 405 Church Road in Monkton at 7:00 p.m. The documentary was a collaboration between 16 Barre residents, State Senator and Johnson State College Professor Bill Doyle, and Peregrine Productions of Waterbury.

“Barre Memories” relives the early days of one of Vermont’s most ethnically diverse and busting towns. Barre’s past and its present are almost totally dominated by a single industry, the granite industry. Barre and the granite industry are intertwined and create the fabric of this central Vermont city.

A brief presentation on the marble industry and quarries of Monkton’s past will precede the showing of the documentary.

The viewing is free and open to the public, with donations gratefully accepted to benefit the restoration fund. Note that there are no restroom facilities at the East Monkton Church. Also, there are a few steps to negotiate in order to gain access to the church. Parking will be along Church Road. Refreshments will be served following the documentary.
