The Kingdom Monologues: Open for Submissions!

Past event
Nov 15, 2015, 8 PM

Hello Northeast Kingdom!

To support the work of Umbrella and A.W.A.R.E and deriving its inspiration from Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues, the Kingdom Monologues will provide a platform for people of all genders to tell their own stories of violence, sexuality, gender, and identity in the Northeast Kingdom. If you have a story to tell, we are currently taking submissions of monologues to be performed in the first annual Kingdom Monologues!

The NEK Monologues will be a community production, no theater or playwriting experience is necessary to become part of this project. The pieces will be developed through the winter to performance level. Monologues may take the shape of a poem, song, narrative, or any type of voiced performance, and though they are called "monologues," collaborative work is welcome! The pieces may be performed by the author or by a performer who will be found through auditions with the author’s permission. The first drafts should be submitted by November 15th.

Stories may involve sexual and relationship violence, sexual identity, exploration and discovery, gender identity, bodies of all genders and sexes, and the intersections these topics have with race, (dis)ability, body image, and the NEK community.

Performances will be held at a to be determined date and location in February. All proceeds from the performances will benefit Umbrella and A.W.A.R.E. These organizations work tirelessly to serve those effected by sexual and relationship violence in the Northeast Kingdom.

If you would like to submit a monologue, be involved as an actor, production assistant or director, help with promotion through design or outreach, or have questions, please contact Hannah at NEKMonologues@gmail.com or at www.facebook.com/nekmonologues.
