The Whigs and Tories are coming!!

HEAR YE, HEAR YE A WESTMINSTER PROCLAMATION TO ALL:

The Westminster Historical Society will once again present a re-enactment of the Westminster Massacre. Come to the Westminster Fire Station, September 12, 2015 at noon for a Tory Tavern style lunch of chicken vegetable or vegetable and bean soup, soda bread and tea. All are welcome and donations appreciated.

The Massacre is considered to be an event that started the American Revolution taking place on March 13, 1775 between the land grant citizens and the Tories (supporters of the King). Judge Chandler will once again preside over the Court with the help of David Moody, a Charlestown, Fort 4 volunteer. The Westminster Central School will help to provide the angry settlers who are afraid that the New York Court will claim their land for debts owed. Kevin Titus and his re-enactors from Connecticut will portray Sheriff William Patterson and his Tory posse. The re-enactment will take place at 1:30pm at the Post Office and Town Hall.

Tour the Westminster East Parish “Old Cemetery” and visit the grave of Patriot William French who died that day, possibly the first blood spilled at the start of the war. Visit the Museum, located on the second floor of the Westminster Town Hall where a replica of the original Court House can be viewed. You can also see the original Court House door and window that still remains.
