Dear Neighbors,
Mayor Miro Weinberger and the City invite you to join us at the BCA Center (135 Church Street) on Tuesday, September 8 from 5:30 to 7 pm for Celebrate Burlington. This annual event will feature the presentation of the Herb Bloomenthal, Peter Clavelle, Community Arts, and Ken Schatz Awards to community members who help us build stronger, safer communities; advance our sustainability goals; and promote the arts in our civic life.
The Community Arts Award is new this year, with resident artist and proclaimed 'Burlington Community Treasure' Bonnie Acker receiving the inaugural honor. This year's recipient of the Herb Bloomenthal Award for Community Activism is local attorney and Burlington College faculty member Sandra L. Baird. The Peter Clavelle award will be bestowed on Don Wright, founder and director of Very Merry Theatre. Finally, the Ken Schatz Award will go to Richard Kemp, a founder of the Community Justice Center and Citizen Advisory Committee Chair.
Please join us to celebrate these active, committed neighbors and community members next Tuesday! There will be refreshments donated by City Market, Lake Champlain Chocolates, Leonardo's Pizza, Rhino Foods, and Sugarsnap, as well as remarks from Mayor Miro Weinberger and Council President Jane Knodell.
