Relocalizing Vermont: Legalizing Marijuana, the Vermont Way

Past event
Sep 3, 2015

9:00 - 10:00 am
Vermonter business people, legislators, and marijuana users are working to create a model for legalizing recreational marijuana that builds the Vermont brand, keeps money in the local economy, and attracts tourists who toke. According to a national marijuana policy expert, Vermont may be unique in the country in this approach to legalization. Our guests will describe Vermont's approach, as well as the national forces of Big Cannabis that the state may soon have to contend with.

State Senator Joe Benning (R-Caledonia) says he tried marijuana after college and decided it wasn't for him--and he's one of the leaders in the State House to legalize marijuana.

Stuart Savel is a medical marijuana user and unofficial spokesperson for the loose-knit group Vermont Home Grown, which is working to preserve a role for home growers and small-scale growers.

Jonathan Caulkins is a national recognized marijuana policy expert and lead author of the report Vermont state government commissioned from RAND, Considering Marijuana Legalization: Insights for Vermont and Other Jurisdictions
