LVRT Chain Saw Safety Training

There are a couple of places left in the Chainsaw Safety Training Course for Trail Crew volunteers of the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail. A Safety Course Certification is mandatory for anyone expecting to use a chain saw on the trail. This course is free to LVRT trail crew members and will take place Sunday, September 13, from 9am until done, in the Morrisville area. Reservations are necessary and a personal equipment list and clothing list will be supplied to all participants along with directions. It does not matter what section of the trail you expect to work on or monitor.
The course instructor is Larry Walters, who has the following qualifications: Retired USFS Land Surveyor (41 years; started 1973 in Silver Lake, OR) ; 30 years wildland firefighter with emphasis on saw-crew snag removal and 5 person squad leader; 20 years as USFS chainsaw and traditional tool (crosscut & axe) trainer, rated as C-Certifier in both disciplines; 8 years of experience as crosscut saw filer. Trained by the late Warren Miller of Peck, ID. ; Completed levels 1 and 2 of Game of Logging program (twice…It’s good for my own training skills); Recently completed 3 day course in crosscut saw filing from Master Filer, Dolly Chapman, in Calpine, CA
