History Hike on Hogback
Sunday, Sept. 6, 1:00
Driving past the 100-mile view on Route 9 between Wilmington and Marlboro, it’s hard to imagine that anybody could have farmed in that steep terrain. But there were farms there in the late 1700’s and most of the 1800’s. Now the land is part of the Hogback Mountain Conservation Area. Our guide Marcia Hamilton has discovered interesting information about the Pease farm that existed north of Route 9. She’ll be leading a walk to the site of the homestead, to look at the barely visible cellar hole and talk about the Pease family and other bits of Hogback history. The hike will be less than a half-mile round-trip and on easy terrain. Meet in the big parking lot north of Route 9. Sponsored by the Hogback Mountain Conservation Association.
