Due to popular demand, our artist-in-residence exhibition will have a repeat showing! Join us for an intimate evening and a look into the unique life and work of contemporary Sri Lankan artist, Mandalika Manjusri. As a young girl, Ms. Manjusri accompanied her father on his “artistic missions” while he carried out a dogged campaign to document the ancient temple murals of Sri Lanka. For years, she studied at his side and came to inherit and gracefully express traditional methods and aesthetics in her own work. In her paintings, Ms. Manjusri skillfully crafts images that effortlessly conjure thousands of years of tradition; her work is ephemeral, spiritual, and minimalist, but based on the real. People, trees, and houses become symbols with a distinct mythology that evolve into two-dimensional pictograms. In this exhibition, we invite you to take a look at the life and work of a unique contemporary artist. Reception to follow, rain or shine.
