Hello forum readers! You've probably already noticed Shelburne's own Dorilee LeBlanc (Mrs. Vermont) on the news or in the papers recently volunteering or promoting outdoor activity. She has partnered with our state park department to be an official volunteer spokesperson for "Venture Vermont". This is a program offered by the State parks that gives Vermonters an incentive to get outside and have fun. She's also donating money raised to help a Vermont community pay for their new playground which has been removed due to safety factors.
Now we need your help! The national competition for Mrs. America is less than six weeks away and we have yet to meet the fundraising goal to get us there. To raise funds for this costly endeavor we are holding a Calcutta Sunday August 23rd at the Old Shed in the Shelburne village. What's a Calcutta? I'm glad you asked :). You buy a number for $50 (as many as you fancy) 1-100, and at the event the numbered balls are drawn at random. The first and every 10th drawn, wins their $50 back or a second chance at the grand prize. The last one drawn gets the cool 2k. Often times the 3 or 4 last people in, decide to split the winnings and not draw the last balls. It's a lot of fun and excitement as they are drawn rather quickly to get through all 100. There will be complimentary food, horseshoes, a pool table and the event is family friendly. The ball you purchase isn't your only chance at winning as there will be a 50/50 raffle and 2 ball numbers will not be sold but rather raffled at the door. We've sold a lot, but now we need your help. There are about 30 remaining numbers to be sold. Don't miss your chance at a high return raffle, and to support Dorilee and the Johnson community playground. To purchase an entry or ask any questions about the event please email mrs.vermont2015@gmail.com.
You're also encouraged and invited to visit her Facebook page at Facebook.com/Mrs. Vermont to see all the awesome things she's been doing. Thank you all so much for the support, we know this is going to be a blast!!
