The Greensboro Free Library will host a book discussion of The Reason for Wings by Joyce Kornblatt on Wednesday, August 26th at 7:00 p.m.

Joyce Kornblatt’s The Reason for Wings, is set in Argentina after the Dirty War of the 1970’s and early 80’s when thousands of Argentineans were persecuted, tortured, and “disappeared.” Kornblatt’s narrator, grandmother (abuela in Spanish) Rachel Silvers, tells the story of her family’s survival amidst a century of cataclysm in Europe and the in Argentina. The story is a gift to the granddaughter who was born in a torture camp, given away in an illegal adoption, and whom Rachel has never met. If Marcella – Rachel imagines her granddaughter’s name – ever discovers her true identity, she will have as a legacy this powerful narrative written for her by her abuela.

Merrill Leffler will lead a discussion of the book on Wednesday, August 26th at 7:00 p.m. at the Greensboro Free Library. Come in and pick up a copy of the book and join the discussion of the dirty war and horrors of that time for Jews in Argentina. Call Mary Metcalf, Librarian, at 533-2531 for more information.
