Jeffersonville, Vt. – Environmental writer Sean Prentiss will read from his memoir, Finding Abbey: The Search for Edward Abbey and His Hidden Desert Grave, on Thursday, August 13 at 7 p.m. at the Varnum Memorial Library.
Finding Abbey combines a creative biography of Abbey with an adventure narrative as Prentiss searches for the hidden desert grave of Edward Abbey. By closing chapters with clues teased from research, travel, and interviews, Prentiss ventures into a 100,000-acre American desert. The search, though, is about not just a hidden desert grave but also about finding a place called home.
Sean Prentiss is the author of the memoir, the co-editor of The Far Edges of the Fourth Genre: Explorations in Creative Nonfiction, a creative nonfiction craft anthology, and the co-author of the forthcoming environmental writing textbook, Environmental and Nature Writing: A Craft Guide and Anthology. He is also the creative editor for Backcountry Magazine.
Prentiss lives with his wife Sarah on a small lake in northern Vermont. He serves as an assistant professor at Norwich University.
The event is made possible by collaboration between Backcountry Magazine, the Cambridge Conservation Commission and the Crescendo Club.
