If you want to stop herbicide use on all of the railroad's ROW in Montpelier (not just between Granite St. and Main St.), join us in a brief vigil outside of the VT Agricultural Agency at 116 State St. at 4:00 pm on Wed. July 22.
Bring signs (e.g., "stop toxins", "democracy now", "protect the Earth" etc.) if you wish. The vigil will be respectful and dignified. After a brief meditation, a few of us will deliver an official Memo to Sec. Ross. Then all of us will march quietly down State St. to City Hall showing our determination and our unity.
At 5:00 pm, after again pausing for a brief meditation, we will enter the Council chambers where the Council will consider the proposed agreement between the railroad and the City. During the time set aside for public comment at the beginning of the meeting we will have the opportunity to express our concerns about the terms of the agreement, expanding the no-spray zone, etc.
The agreement is currently an item on the consent agenda. One of the councilors must request that it be removed from that agenda before it can be discussed as a stand-alone issue requiring separate approval/disapproval by the Council. (Well before the meeting, you may wish to politely ask your council member if he or she is willing to make this request.)
Protect your health, your children's health and the health of our planet. Join other Vermonters working to ban toxins from our neighborhoods and our city. Come to the vigil, the march and the Council meeting on Wed., July 22.
