Craftsbury Chamber Players – Concert #2-- Wednesday, July 22, 7:30 pm at the UVM Recital Hall.
Preconcert talk -- 6:45 pm.

Eric Ewazen – Sonata for Viola and Piano (1992). Composer Ewazen writes: “I was eager to explore the viola's beautiful colors and range of expression. Hence I wrote a work in three contrasting movements, each with very different moods and musical details. . . . My thanks to Kenji Bunch and Monica Ohuchi for introducing my viola sonata to the audience at the great Craftsbury Chamber Music Festival.”

Takashi Yoshimatsu -- Fuzzy Bird Sonata (1995) for Alto Saxophone and Piano in three movements:
"Run Bird, Sing Bird, Fly Bird."
In addition to his love of Japanese bird sounds, “one quickly senses his fondness for jazz in the angular rhythms and almost improvisatory melodic character of the saxophone.”

Franz Schubert – String Quintet in C Major (1828) for 2 violins, 2 violas and 2 cellos.
“Shubert's musical fame rests largely on his abundance of beautiful sing-able melodies combined with abrupt and adventurous modulations to unexpected keys.” This richly rewarding masterpiece in four movements was composed in Shubert's last year.

Tickets $25 adults, $10 students, free for children under 12. Free afternoon children’s concert, 4:00 pm. 1-800-639-3443; www.craftsburychamberplayers.org
