Beth El Synagogue will be hosting the Burlington based band, Dahg, for a Rock Shabbat service on Friday, July 24th. The evening will begin with a community potluck at 5:30 pm, followed by services at 6:30 pm. The service will be a unique combination of traditional liturgy mixed with rock songs.
While the multidenominational synagogue offers a variety of types of Shabbat services, this is the first with a plugged in, electrified band. “We are all looking forward to it. We have never had anything like this before at Beth El.” says Beth El board president, Patty Caplan. “It should be fun, and I think it will appeal to families and young people.”
Dahg is composed of members of Temple Sinai in South Burlington, Vermont. They have traveled to other congregations in the state to share their unique Shabbat experiences, and have been warmly received. The band shares the following:
"A 'garage-style' band, we have performed for several Rock Shabbat services as well as other occasions both at temple and in the community. The idea behind the band and the Rock Shabbat is to offer a different type of spiritual experience in order to attract more to our Friday night worship. We combine classic rock with some of our more traditional liturgy played louder and faster than it probably ought to be. We've found that this mix appeals to all ages and creates an energy not often seen in traditional worship."
Please rsvp if you are planning to come to the vegetarian potluck. Feel free to call or email Rene Rose at renerose@myfairpoint.net or 802-751-8492, if you have any questions.
