Its that time of year when our household vegetable gardens are starting to overflow. Share your extra garden produce with neighbors and/or local food shelves (and come check out/take home very local free produce) every Saturday now through October! There are currently two locations for Share Our Surplus (SOS): in front of the Town Clerk's office in Dummerston Center (corner of Middle and East West Roads) and 184 West Street, across from the Baptist Church in West Dummerston. (We expect to have a third location at the KOA campground on Route 5 starting July 25.) Kiosks are up from 9 am to 5 pm; whatever is left over at 5 pm is delivered to Morningside Shelter.
SOS is a project of Transition Dummerston, part of an international network building local resilience and well-being in the face of climate, energy, and economic challenges. Our aim with SOS is to help make our food as local as possible, reducing the use of oil in food production and transportation; make fresh healthy food more widely available in the community; build awareness of what we can (and eat) grow locally; and connect neighbors to each other.
