Vermont Beekeepers Association Update
Summer Meeting

The VBA Summer Meeting will be held July 25, 2015 at the Stowe High School. A big THANK YOU to the Lamoille County Beekeeping Club for hosting this year's meeting. We are very excited to have
Dr. James L. Frazier Professor Emeritus, Department of Entomology, Center for Chemical Ecology, Center for Pollinator Research at The Pennsylvania State University as our guest speaker.

There is no charge to attend the morning session during which we welcome non VBA members to join us to learn about the issues at play with pesticides and the latest research, including how neonicotinoids ("neonics") factor into the discussions. We are trying to spread the word about his important topic, please invite individuals from the community you feel would be interested to come listen to Jim's presentation.

The presentation:
Pesticides in the Landscape and Their Impacts on Honey Bee Colony Health
Pesticides are more widely distributed in the environment than most people realize, but honey bees are the ultimate environmental indicators of the extent of this pollution. Recent residue data will be reviewed and needed information highlighted. The sub lethal impacts of pesticide mixtures on honey bees and native pollinators is likewise widespread, but relatively little understood. Our political and regulatory systems are woefully inadequate in their responses to the current bee crises, and actions that all of us can take to help force the needed changes will be highlighted.
