CANAAN, VERMONT
For the past 62 years a snow elf has gone high up Canaan Hill and filled the same antique wooden crates with mid-winter snow to be saved and brought out again during the heat of an August summer night. The snow is then drenched with hot maple syrup from the hills and sugar houses of Canaan.
This year that night is Friday August 7th and the snow will be unpacked at 5pm in Fletcher Park in between the War Monuments and the Victorian water fountain. In addition to the traditional offerings of very sour pickles, fresh lemonade and sweet desserts this year a full meal will be available with the addition of $1.00 kid hot dogs, chili dogs and bowls of chili. There will be a number of types of chili to choose from in addition to the famous Crawford Bros. prize winner from many years back.
Entertainment will be provided by Roland Coitnoir and his band, Carolyn's Friends . The "Cake Walk" returns to Sugar-on-Snow for the first time in many years. For those that are not familiar with a "Cake Walk" it is like musical chairs yet involves freshly baked cakes and when the music stops each time the "winner" gets to pick a cake to take home..
Sugar-on-Snow is a tradition that endures and grows every year as ball players and townspeople gather together at a kid friendly family fun event.
