Free Outdoor Carillon Concert at Norwich Saturday!

Past event
Jul 11, 2015, 1 AM to 2 PM

The second carillon (bell) concert of the summer season is this Saturday, July 11, from 1-2 p.m. at Norwich University. Gordon Slater of Ottawa, Canada will be performing an eclectic program of musical compositions ranging from classical to folk to contemporary. Bring a lawn chair or blanket, a picnic lunch, and relax in the shade of the Upper Parade Ground. The concert is open to the public, handicapped accessible, and parking is free.

After the concert the tower will remain open for a half hour for free tours and a demonstration on the instrument. Norwich's carillon--one of only two in the state of Vermont--comprises 47 bells, the largest of which weighs more than 1 1/2 tons. This will be the second in a series of five concerts; so if you miss out on this one, there will be three more in succession, ending on August 1. It is a unique cultural event, perfect for entertaining guests from out of town. Best of all, it is free! Please spread the word!
