Get ready, get set . . . the annual Lake Champlain Challenge Race takes place on Sunday July 12, 2015 at the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum in Vergennes, Vermont. Rowers and boating enthusiasts from Vermont will be joined this year by visiting teams from Massachusetts, Maine, and Picton, Ontario. “Bring your rowboat, canoe, kayak, or paddleboard, and get your friends and family to join you,” says Nick Patch, Director of Outdoor Education. “If you would like to use one of our boats, call ahead to sign up. We have a few canoes available on a first-come basis. It’s a fun event for people at all skill levels to get out on the water.”

The Challenge Race follows a 3 mile triangular course which includes some of most beautiful scenery on Lake Champlain. The event has divisions for all types of human-powered rowboats, canoes, kayaks, and paddleboards, and for teams in rowing gigs and skiffs. Registration starts at 9:30 and the race begins at 11:00. The registration fee of $25.00 per person includes Museum admission for the racer and two spectators. Lake Champlain Maritime Museum’s Community Rowing Club will host a free buffet lunch on the Museum grounds for all participants after the race.
