Pay Attention, Folks
The July 8th Meeting from 7 to 9 PM at UVM includes a presentation of PlanBTV South End at 8:30, followed by Q&A. Not much time. I heard the presentation last month, and it's rooted in "change the zoning" so they can do what's best for them. The South End inhabitants who attended "the Reveal" didn't like the plan. Affordable housing is much needed, but not there. Nothing should be built on that stretch of Pine, where traffic is already awful. Form-based Code seems to mean that any block will look folksy (like the surrounding blocks), regardless of what's within. And a majority of the housing Won't be "Affordable." There's money to be made - banks, real estate, contractors, lots of temporary jobs. When it's done, the money-folk will move on and we'll have to live in "looked good on paper" city. Try reading the 120 page PlanBTV, Really. We have until August to give the City our opinions. It's in our hands.
