Free Carillon Concert at Norwich Saturday!

Past event
Jul 4, 2015, 1 to 2 PM

The first carillon (bell) concert of the summer season is this Saturday, July 4, from 1-2 p.m. at Norwich University. George Matthew Jr of Brandon, Vermont, will be performing an all-American program ending with a patriotic medley in honor of Independence Day. Bring a lawn chair or blanket, a picnic lunch, and relax in the shade of the Upper Parade Ground. The concert is open to the public, handicapped accessible, and parking is free. After the concert the tower will remain open for a half hour for free tours and a demonstration on the instrument. Norwich's carillon--one of only two in the state of Vermont--comprises 47 bells, the largest of which weighs more than 1 1/2 tons. Concerts will take place on five consecutive Saturdays, so if you miss out on this one, there will be four more in succession, ending on August 1. It is a unique cultural event, perfect for entertaining guests from out of town. Best of all, it is free! Please spread the word!
