The Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), Lakes and Ponds Program will be holding an information and training event on July 6th at Kingsland Bay State Park, Ferrisburgh from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm on the Shoreland Protection Act which took effect last summer on July 1, 2014. The new rules regulate lakeshore development within 250 feet of the shoreline of Lake Champlain and most inland lakes and ponds, including the creation of new impervious surfaces such as buildings, driveways, and decks and the creation of new cleared areas, such as tree and vegetation cutting/clearing. The event is free and open to the public, and lakeshore property owners are encouraged to attend, along with arborists and other professionals that may have interest in learning about this new regulation. The event will include a field component and overview of the Shoreland Vegetation Protection Standards.
