Independence Day in the Elsa French Park

Past event
Jul 5, 2015, 12 to 3 PM

Noon to 3 PM - Please join Village residents to enjoy hot dogs and non-alcoholic drinks in the Elsa French Park. Bring your cheer and lawn chair to the FIRST gathering in the Elsa French Park. HYDE PARK ARTS, a board committee, provides stewardship under the direction of Chair, Peter Gallo.

The park is dedicated to a remarkable village resident, Elsa French, who peacefully passed away at her home of 70 years on the morning of Oct. 10, 2011. The evening of October 9, 2013, her nine children gifted their family home located at 25 Commonwealth Avenue to The Village of Hyde Park. The Elsa French Park is transforming into a community park that will provide a lovely natural space within the heart of the village.

Elsa and Dr. Edward French were married in 1941, following a courtship that began at the original Copley Hospital in Morrisville. Elsa was a beautiful young nurse. Dr. French was a surgeon and Army Reserve officer who was called to serve as a medical officer in Europe following Pearl Harbor. Dr. French returned as a Captain and spent the next 45 years carrying on his much needed medical practice in Hyde Park and at the Copley Hospital.
