Contra Dance in Cabot Sept. 14

I'm writing to encourage people to come to Cabot's first monthly contra and square dance this Saturday, September 14, at 7:30, in the Willey Building.

For any of you who don't know, contra dancing is a long-standing part of New England's heritage, done for the joy of dancing to good music with friendly people. The dances are all taught, and easy to learn. All ages are welcome, and no partner is needed--folks usually dance with different people throughout the evening, which is part of the fun.

The thing is: the more people who come, the more enjoyable it is! If we have a good turn-out for this first dance, everyone will have a great time, and will want to come back again. This dance used to be in Danville, but there wasn't enough local support to make it a true community event there, and we felt it would be different in Cabot, where there's so much engagement.

The music is live, with Dave Carpenter and several other great musicians playing lively traditional tunes, and the caller for September is Luke Donforth. If you're reading this and thinking "Well, I'm not sure..." just give it a try, and see! You can also just sit and watch and listen if your knees aren't up to it, or twirl around with your toddler on the sidelines. Bring your kids and friends, and join us!

The Cabot Old Time Family Contra and Square Dance will be held on the second Saturday of every month September through May. The dance series is sponsored by the Cabot Library. There is a small donation requested to defray costs.

Hope to see you at the dance!
