Children’s Concert – Gary Dulabaum at Castleton Free Library

Kick off the Kids’ Summer Reading Program at Castleton Free Library with a free concert by Gary Dulabaum on Thursday, June 25th at 7:00 p.m. This year’s theme is “Every Hero Has a Story,” and Gary will share songs about American folk heroes who have captured our imaginations and hearts. Some are real, and some are just great stories of amazing accomplishments that we all wish were real. During this interactive, participatory concert, you’ll meet folk heroes such as John Henry, Laura Ingalls Wilder, Johnny Appleseed, Annie Oakley, Humpty Dumpty, Paul Bunyun, Babe the Blue Ox, and a teacher who thinks he is Elvis – to name a few.

This will be one of Gary’s last Vermont performances, as he will be relocating to California after 35 years of being based in Vermont. He has performed in 49 states and 8 countries, presented programs at libraries in 38 different states and all over Vermont, released 6 recordings and a book (My Teacher Rides a Harley), appeared on NPR’s “Morning Edition” as an author/musician, presented school programs at over 2,000 schools, performed with the “First Lady of Children’s Music,” Ella Jenkins, and toured/worked with authors such as Nikki Giovanni, Ashley Bryan, Mem Fox, Jane Yolen, Steve Swinburne, Will Hobbs, Roland Smith and Bruce Lansky. In addition, he has performed concerts for adults in countless clubs and folk venues. “…Gary Dulabaum, equally well known in folk music and education circles, has an approach all his own that combines tradition and kitsch with wild originality fueled by his high level of energy.” (Vermont Storytelling Festival) For more on Gary, visit www.garydulabaum.com.

Summer reading materials and our full schedule of library events will be available at the concert and on the library website (www.castletonfreelibrary.org) and Facebook page; or call Jan at 468-5574 for more information.
