"The Vermont Lake Wise Program is offering a training in shoreland lake friendly practices at the North Woods Stewardship Center on 154 Leadership Dr., East Charleston on Wednesday, June 24th from 12:00 to 4:00pm. The training is offered to those who want to learn more about managing shoreland property using lake-friendly practices. The training consists of inside review followed by an outside site assessment, and will cover technical and scientific information, including landscaping with native plants and controlling stormwater with rain gardens, waterbars or infiltration ditches. These trainings will help shoreland property owners exemplify good shoreland practices and earn the beautiful Lake Wise Award sign. It’s easy to think that a single eroding camp road or expansive lawn wouldn’t impact a big lake, but when these practices exists all along a shore, they do, especially in the shallow water areas. For more information about Lake Wise, contact Amy Picotte at Amy.Picotte@state.vt.us or visit the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources’ Lake Wise web site www.watershedmanagement.vt.gov/lakes. Contact Megan Carter from the North Woods Stewardship Center at meghann@northwoodscenter.org or visit their web site to pre-register for the training at http://www.northwoodscenter.org/wordpress/events/. This training costs $5.00 and you can register the day of the event.”
