Truth-In & Vigil to Stop Fracked Gas Pipeline

For over two years, groups of Vermonters have been fighting a proposal to run a fracked gas pipeline through our farms and to protect communities from Alberta, Canada to Monkton, Vermont, from the dangers of fracked gas pipeline and catastrophic climate change. We’ve signed petitions, attended public hearings, written letters to the editor, occupied the governor’s office and shut down pipeline construction with our bodies. While these efforts were successful in defeating Phase 2 of the fracked gas pipeline, our struggle continues.

On June 22 and 23, the Vermont Public Service Board (PSB) will hold the final Technical Hearings to decide whether or not to reevaluate Vermont Gas (VGS) permits in light of the fact that the projected cost for the pipeline has increased by almost 80% since the project was approved by the PSB a year and a half ago. These costs will be passed on to existing ratepayers.

On Monday, June 22, at 4 pm, people from across Vermont will gather in front of the hearings in Montpelier to stand up for our right to a livable planet and healthy communities. Fracked gas not “a cleaner cheaper” energy source for Vermonters, and the proposed pipeline places unacceptable burdens on ratepayers on fixed incomes, and on property owners’ rights.

After rallying outside the hearings, we will hold an all-night vigil and encampment to remember and honor those who have already lost their homes or lives due to climate chaos.

This is the last stand in the battle to stop the fracked gas pipeline. Can you join us? Let us know at bitly.com/riseupspeakout
