The entire community surrounding Canaan is asked to come and join a true community effort to reopen the Parsonage House for Grace Church. Built over 100 years ago as the residence for the pastor and his family, this classic white Vermont 4 bedroom house has been unoccupied off and on for the past decade. Now that the entire property is owned by the independent and non-denominational Community Church we want our new minister and his young family to occupy the house year-round.
The elders recall that it was at least 40 years ago when the inside was last painted and updated so you might imagine what it looks like now (think 1970's disco and avocado green). Yet imagine what it will look like after a refresher of historically accurate paint colors, refinished floors and new curtains and fixtures!
We need volunteers that would like to pitch in any amount of time and labor that they may have available for this project.
All you need do is show up ready to tackle a room or two. We need spacklers, painters, people that know how to do dry wall, window washers, mini-blind washers, sanders, grunts with muscles, people with landscaping/flower gardening skills, people willing to bring/make/serve lunch to the workers .. in short, we need the community!
We will be working on this project with the hope that the family will be able to move into the parsonage by the middle of July. As this is a "construction site" we have also arranged for supervised child care at the Canaan Rec. Park. Parents/grandparents will be freed up from those responsibilities during work and the kids will come up to the Church Hall for lunch with all the workers.
We all have so many projects of our own at homes and we understand that this is a huge request. Yet have faith that if you arrive and you will forever be a bigger part of the restoration of this historic house in the center of Canaan. We look forward to seeing everyone for as little or as much time as you might have to give. Please join us.
