This month we are proud to host Sugar House Run string band .
That Hard Driving, Bluegrass Sound

SugarHouse Run began during the 2014 Vermont sugaring season when Shelburne Sugar works asked Chasing 440 basest and longtime sugar maker, Mike Fortin if he could put together some music for the open house season. Fortin teamed up with Husband and wife Duo, Michael and Amanda Ryan to create a small band with a big sound. With the less is more philosophy, SugarHouse Run developed a sound showcasing the fine tuned vocal harmonies of Michael and Amanda Ryan, backed by hard driving bluegrass tunes to keep the audience moving. A perfect combination to warm the toes on a cold spring weekend.

The well received band continued on through the summer, breaching the generational gap through afternoon concerts at retirement communities in St. Albans, Stowe and Shelburne; and regular gigs in Downtown Burlington at the Dailey Planet. A pivotal moment for SugarHouse Run was on a warm August Friday night at the Vermont Pub and Brewery, when Fiddle player Yannig Tanguy from Ticonderoga NY, showed up during the second set with his fiddle. The sound and energy of the fiddle lent well to the Bluegrass sound fo SugarHouse run, and the following weekend, Tanguy was on stage with SugarHouse Run at the Lewis Creek Bluegrass Festival.

Sugarhouse Run brings a fresh sound to old Bluegrass music. The Ryans' Vocal harmonies are influenced by brother duets such as the Louvin brothers, Jim and Jessie and the Gibson Brothers. The male and female voice adds dynamic to the close harmonies. The Ryans’ also bring original music to the band that has an old soul feel. Michael Ryan's Coal and Steel, tells a hauntingly true depiction of the family life of coal mines.

The now 4 piece string band has been continuously gigging and is already booking into the summer bluegrass season with a return to the stage at the Lewis Creek Bluegrass festival and a debut at the Basin Bluegrass festival in Brandon Vermont.
