Lyme Disease, according to the Comm. of Health is an "epidemic" in VT. Estimates say that over 2,000 people will get lyme, and maybe 25% of them will know it and be treated so they are well. The other 75% may go on for years declining in health, or have a health crisis. Children are most susceptible to neurological disorders from lyme. 50% of people do not see the tick or get a rash! Summer "flu" is often linked to lyme and can be treated early - that is good news.
A lyme survivor sponsors an almost monthly Lyme and TBD support group in S. Burlington. Everyone is welcomed! If you have lyme or want to learn more about it, it's a good place to be.
June 20, Bob Giguere from IGeneX labs power point to help you understand some of the complexities of testing for lyme. It isn't cut and dry, and leaves about 40% margin for error!
July 25 will be a powerpoint by a teacher and advocate who go around to local schools trying to educate teachers and kids about being tick safe! You might find this helpful in keeping YOUR family safe from lyme when you go out in the garden, to the shore, hiking in the woods, or walking the dog!
2 pm and at Faith United Methodist Church, 899 Dorset Street in South Burlington. All are welcomed!
Be tick safe! Wear permethrin coated clothing, picaridin for skin and clothing, deet if you must, and some people find some herbals helpful. Lemon Eucalyptus oil repels ticks, as do some blends. Do tick checks often. Shower after exposure, and learn the symptoms. Ticks are abundant this year - ALL year.
