You are invited to hear Attorney General William Sorrell deliver the keynote address at the 54th Bi-Annual State Convention of the League of Women Voters of Vermont this Saturday, June 13, 2015, at 1 p.m. at NECI on Main in the Wine Room, 118 Main Street, Montpelier. Mr. Sorrell will speak on campaign finance reform and there is no charge for the event.
The Attorney General is Vermont’s chief law enforcement officer and his office is charged with enforcing the state’s campaign finance laws. The League of Women Voters, a nonpartisan political organization, is one of America’s most trusted grassroots organizations.
The League is deeply committed to reforming the nation's campaign finance system to ensure the public's right to know and combat corruption and undue influence. Since 1974, the League has fought for comprehensive reform to address abuses in the existing system. Using a two track strategy - 1) achieve incremental reforms where possible in the short term, and 2) build support for public financing as the best long-term solution – the League calls for limits to PAC and large contributor donations, closing the soft-money loophole, and public benefits for candidates, such as reduced postage and broadcasting costs.
The League's position on Campaign Finance reflects continuing concern for open and honest elections and maximum citizen participation in the political process. It strongly supports a strong and effective Federal Election Commission.
