Many Burlington residents may be unaware that there is a concerted effort underway for the next phase of Burlington Telecom to become a MEMBER OWNED cooperative, similar in structure to the highly successful City Market Co-op. This outcome is within reach if we support this effort. By having a member-owned telecom co-op, Burlington residents will be assured that their best interests will be served. This not only includes less expensive, high quality fiber optic service, but greater control over the content we receive via Internet and TV; and, avoiding the watchful eye of a media corporation where privacy issues are of great concern. Support this effort by joining the KeepBTLocal Cooperative and attending the meeting this Sunday, June 14.
Below, is the announcement with details of the meeting.
~~~~~
The KeepBTLocal Cooperative is having an open meeting on June 14 at 2 pm.
This meeting will be held at the Champlain College's Miller Center, 175 Lakeside Avenue, near the intersection with Pine Street. The meeting will be held in room 101/102 and parking will be available in the lot behind the building. (Signs indicate permits needed, but this is not necessary on Sunday.)
The agenda for the meeting will include an update on Burlington Telecom itself, an update on KeepBTLocal's activities over the past year and a discussion with our consultant, Brian Lippold, who has been working with the Board on its acquisition plan.
We look forward to seeing all who are interested.
