Richmond, Sunday June 14, 3 Pm

This is a posting for a friend in Underhill:

Village Harmony Alumni Ensemble, led by Larry Gordon and special guest conductor Bongani Magatyana from Capetown, South Africa, will perform on Sunday, June 14, in Richmond at the Old Round Church, at 3 pm. This unique world music vocal ensemble will perform traditional and newly composed songs and dances from South Africa, American shape-note songs and contemporary compositions, traditional songs from Caucasus Georgia and the Balkans, and renaissance works.

Village Harmony features a powerful, natural, unrestrained, vocal sound; a remarkable variety of vocal styles and timbres; and the visible, vibrant community among the singers and audience as they share in a joyous celebration of music. BONGANI MAGATYANA is a remarkably dynamic singer/music director/composer/theatrical producer living in Gugulethu Township in Cape Town, South Africa. His father was a self-taught choir conductor in the Old Apostolic Church. Bongani's father taught him how to read and write tonic solfa music notation at a very young age, and young Bongani dreamed of becoming a choir conductor, too. Today he is conducts a 120-voice choir himself, and his folk-inspired choral compositions—popular pieces for South Africa's major choral competitions—are sung by choirs around South Africa and internationally.

Suggested admission at the door is $10, $5 for students and seniors. For more information call 802-426-3210.
