Yes, it’s an enigmatic, if not silly name, with connotations of the deviant... but let us explain what MUD and Foodaroo hope to do.
We LOVE Middlebury! The Shire, the people, the land... and most importantly, the community. Middlebury Underground was created with a single-minded purpose—offer innovative, out of the box experiences focused on bringing something new and different to our community. We endeavor to build adventures that bond everyone together, regardless of age, interest, political leanings (we’ll do our best to remain steadfastly neutral amongst all the recent heated FPF political discussion). We dream of a festival that appeals to everybody—and who doesn’t like mouth-watering local food, soul rocking Vermont bands, and awe inspiring street performances?
To this end, in an effort to engage the community with no strings attached, general admission to Foodaroo is FREE! We invite everyone to come listen to Josh Panda, Clint Bierman, Peter Day and the Grift, Kat Wright and the Indomitable Soul Band, Francesca Blanchard... and be thrilled by the fire wielding acrobatic antics of the Red Trouser Show... kids cooking demonstrations, watermelon eating contests... not to mention an extraordinary collection of other “surprises!” All right in downtown Middlebury... hosted by our very own indomitable Town Hall Theater.
Of course, while you’re here, we hope you’ll try the food. The heart of Foodaroo’s soul is local FOOD! Its essence is a celebration of the farm-to-table movement that makes living here so exceptional. On this first day of summer, a dozen food purveyors from across Addison County and throughout Vermont bring their craft to downtown Middlebury. Imagine seductive, pork-centric farm-to-face feasts; wood-fired pizza celebrating the season’s harvest; farm-to-spoon ice cream, Argentinean grill-stoked meats and paella... a mobile bakery to beguile your senses; international classics and American favorites with a local twist and much, much more. This tasting festival highlights a rich diversity of cuisine... all crafted with a common love and devotion to locally sourced ingredients. It also pays tribute to the people behind the food, whose inspiring stories are being told on the Mud Talks Facebook page leading up to the event. Tickets for the tasting extravaganza are available on Merchants Row the day of the festivities, (we’d love to offer food for free too... but we’re unfortunately not independently wealthy).
So, if any of this sounds interesting, please spread the word. If this festival is successful, we hope to do it every year... AND, we hope to offer other unique experiences like it for many years to come. Events featuring everything from sharks to space, food to music, art, travel, booze, cheese, animals, playgrounds... anything and everything we think the community might find interesting. We want this to grow and evolve, and we’d love everyone who wants to be a part of it to feel comfortable joining the movement.
So, we apologize in advance if our intense promotion over the next few weeks grows tiresome to anyone... but we just want this event to be a success, and are doing our best to get the word out. And we promise not to mention Bernie Sanders... even though we love him! (Sorry, just couldn’t resist.)
