We will explore the archaeological remains of Camp Smith at Little RIver, the largest CCC camp in the eastern U.S. Up to 3,000 men lived here during the construction of the Waterbury Dam in the mid-1930's. The camp was a community containing 26 barracks, theatre, hospital, church, school, police station, library, ice rink, truck depot, and drinking water reservoir, storage tanks, and distribution system.
