At the Mt. Abe Union High/Middle School board meeting last evening, May 21st, the following actions were taken:
An operating budget, in the amount of $13,947,738, for the 2016 fiscal year was adopted and will be warned today. Voting will take place on Tuesday, June 9th at the annual polling places of the respective towns at hours conforming to those of each town. This vote is for the operational budget for Mt. Abe only.
An informational meeting will be held on Monday, June 8th at 7 p.m. at Mt. Abe - most likely in one of the cafeterias, but the exact place will be announced soon.
An information sheet explaining this budget is currently being drafted and should be available by May 29th. We plan to mail one to each mailbox in the 5 towns, as well as sending another FPF message containing the link to view it on-line. It will also be available on the ANESU website.
It's important to note that while the new budget still reflects a reduction of 5.3 FTE (Full Time Equivalent) positions, with some staff retiring and other resignations, those staff members that were listed to be cut may be eligible to fill these open positions.
The Board wishes to thank all the community members that have attended the recent meetings, as well those that have contacted board members to share their opinions and views - we've tried to accommodate as many of those points as possible and the Board believes that the new proposed budget not only meets the needs of our students, which is always our first priority, but will allow our students to thrive, follow their passions and continue to be contributing members of the community. Our students amaze us every day and we cannot wait to see what the future brings.
