Dear Parents and Community Members,
On Tuesday, May 26th at 6:30 pm and Thursday, June 4th, the Westminster School Board is hosting two Community Forums at Westminster Center School. These forums are intended to provide all Westminster citizens with an opportunity to discuss the future of our Westminster Schools as part of the Board's strategic planning.
As you probably know, large decisions about education in Vermont are being made at the state level, in part as an attempt to deal with declining enrollment in public schools. The two community forums will be our best opportunity to help our school board consider the broadest range of possibilities for our town’s schools. Recently, we had a dynamic conversation about whether the Westminster West School should remain open or be closed. The community forum has the potential to move our town beyond that previously recurring debate and into more interesting conversations about what education could and should be here in Westminster.
Please understand that our school board needs us, always but at this juncture particularly. Our teachers, while attempting to balance ways of teaching that are sustainable and creative with more and more accountability demands, need our input and support also. So, knowing your time is valuable and that many of you have given much of your time up for our schools already, I am still urging you to consider yourselves essential. Please attend.
I encourage you also to forward this email to anyone you think might be interested in participating.
