Dive into the Arts This Weekend!

I am going to be hosting an Open Studio this Saturday and Sunday from 10AM to 5PM at my Waterbury Village art studio on the second floor at 55 South Main Street (across from the Methodist Church). I hope you will consider stopping by!

The event is part of the Open Studio Weekend, hosted by the Vermont Crafts Council. The statewide event offers a unique opportunity for residents and visitors to meet a wide variety of artists and craftspeople in their studios. Individuals and groups of all interests and ages are welcome.

Nearly 250 studios will be open across the state, and the event is FREE and open to the public. In addition to looking at beautiful artwork and handcrafts, participants enjoy the chance to learn more about the process of making art and the influences behind a particular artist’s work. This is a great chance for hobbyists, collectors and even other art professionals to learn more about others’ work and to get inspired for future endeavors.

I paint with acrylics and work to capture images of beauty in every day life – from clothes hanging on the line, to dewdrops on a spiderweb, to bees on a flower. The paintings are colorful and figurative – meaning that the shapes and figures in the images are representative of real life, not abstract. You can find more at www.torreycarrollsmith.com.

In Waterbury, two other artists will also open their studios this weekend:
- Potter Jeremy Ayers will open his home studio in the Village at 18 Elm Street and will be both showing his work and doing demonstrations. See more of his work at www.jeremyayerspottery.com.
- Glass blower Glenn Ziemke will be doing glass blowing demonstrations all day and selling his work in his store on Route 100. See more at www.zglassblowing.com.

Maps are available at the artists’ studios, online at vermontcrafts.com, or you can follow the bright yellow signs directly.
