PEOPLE’S HOUSING SUMMIT
Doors open at 6:30pm for Info tables
Contois Auditorium, City Hall, Burlington, VT
Guest Speaker: Dr. Tom Angotti, Hunter College, New York
Author of Zoning Without Planning and The New Century of the Metropolis (Routledge, 2012).
This Housing Summit, hosted by Burlington's All Wards NPA and organized by Save Open Space-Burlington (SOS-B), is an opportunity to look at housing options from a broader perspective than is offered by the Mayor Weinberger's recent Housing Action Plan (HAP). The focus for the Summit will be planning neighborhoods and community, by and for residents of Burlington. We will also have presentations on four topics related to the HAP:
· South End Enterprise Zone, Census use, and Transportation - Charles Norris-Brown
· Assessment of Form-based Code for Burlington - Eric Morrow
· Accessory units, tiny houses, infill choices and more for vibrant neighborhoods and Living in Place - Ibnar Avilix and Ruby Perry
· Students Housing Concerns - Charles Simpson
The talk by Dr. Angotti will be followed by a Q&A session, as will the four topic presentations.
Following the Open Space Summit in January, SOS-B was challenged to explore ways the city could expand affordable housing opportunities without sacrificing what remains of the natural environment. The Housing Summit will be a chance to address these issues as well as other topics ignored or inadequately treated by the city's HAP.
Sponsored by: Save Open Space-Burlington, Neighborhoods Planning Assemblies, SEABA, and 05401.
