Looking for a new outdoor activity or love learning new sports? Did you know that Burlington has the ONLY public outdoor squash court in the entire United States? Do you want to know what squash is? (hint: it is a vegetable but it is also a racket sport).
Who may like squash: folks looking for a physical activity (the wikipedia page says squash players burn 600 to 1000 calories per hour), tennis players, or anyone looking to be outside and meet new people
What is squash: It's a great racket sport that is played in a court with four walls, a small rubber ball and a racket that looks like a thinner tennis racket. Read more on the Wikipedia page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Squash_%28sport%29 , or watch a quick YouTube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sSvzNWQQl90 (it may be hard to follow, but this is what professional squash looks like)
When: This Sunday the 17th at 10:30 a.m. Please RSVP if you can make it, or if you're interested and can't make it let me know and I'll create a list of interested squash folks.
Where: Leddy Park (the court is next to the tennis courts- many people think it is a tennis wall) Read an article about the court being built: http://squashclub.org/main/resources/articles/outdoor_court/outdoor_court.shtml
Why: Because I love teaching squash (I am the instructor for the courses at UVM), because it is fun, and because we should be using this amazing resource that we have. The court cost about $60,000 to build and it would be great if the city understood that people want to use it rather than let it crumble.
Send me an email to RSVP.
