It seems the season of Busy Weekends has arrived in force! Just wanted to give you all an early word about an event being held at the Woodbury Library this coming Wed evening. The event title, "Arming the Union: Vermont Gun makers and the Technology That Shaped America" tells the story. During the Civil War, the Union army fielded more than two million men, most of them armed with newly made, highly accurate rifles. In this illustrated lecture, historian and museum curator Carrie Brown explores the critical role that Vermont played in producing technology that won the war. American life and popular culture were changed forever by their innovations.
This presentation is free, sponsored by Friends of the Woodbury Library (FOWL) with a grant from the VT Humanities Council speakers program. Appropriate for students and adults of all interests. Light refreshments. Call Elizabeth if you have questions, at 456-1630.
